Updated Italian force

Given the recent developments with the Italian army, I thought I would go through the army list again, although it will be less of a singular 1000 or 1250 point list and more of a complete army list, with all the units I have built, intend to buy and at the end some additional units that it would be nice to pick up at some point. Some.of these extra units will depend on when the Italian army book comes out and whether there are any units changes or additional units listed, but I think that is a way off yet. 

Firstly well start with the models that I have built and are in the process of being painted.


Rifle platoon

Some of the points totals can change for these units, as the experience levels can be altered on some of them and also the options can be altered, such as adding anti-tank grenades or special rules. However, from these units a pretty solid core to an army can be build and in several ways, be it all veteran units or more regular army units. The heavy weapons and artillery platoon commanders are inexperienced as they will mostly be hiding out of sight somewhere, not doing much but providing some dice, and so don't need to worry so much about leadership.

There are still some units that are on the to buy list and will get brought at some point, not sure when though. These are mostly vehicles and artillery.

This gives me the vehicles I'm after, to fill the armoured platoon and the artillery for an artillery platoon. These units will be used to complete my primary 1250 point list. 

There are, as ever, a number of units that I would like to add to the collection but don't really have a need for them.

The light mortars and the AT rifles are pretty useless really but they look fun. The three vehicles are however pretty good. The S37's for the Paracadutisti and the AB41 for the autocannon and recce ability. I would actually like an AB43, but as it was only used by the Germans and not both sides, I'll have to stick with the AB41. 

All these units give me a Grand total of 1849 points, although I could easly push this up or down by changing the experience levels. I actually still have 18 bodies left to build, although I don't really know what I would build with them. I could build some attendants for the officers and medic or possibly some extra Alpini to make an Alpini platoon, (although I don't have the right heads). Either way I'm going to wait until the Italian army book comes out to build any more infantry.

So there is still quite a way to go before I have a full army but the infantry section is well and truly underway.

Thoughts behind the VBCW force

As I put in my previous post, this will explain my thinking behind my VBCW force and why I have chosen what units to include and also where they will sit in the overall VBCW story line.  We’ll start with the easy bit, the list; The leader is a 2nd Lieutenant with pistol, because you need an officer to lead and a small force like this would be lead by a junior officer.  There will also be a Medic with pistol, because who would want to go to battle with out one? Plus you get an extra order dice for other units to use.   Next up are two Regular Infantry squads each with 8 men including a LMG team, so six rifles and an LMG team. Thoughts behind the Italians

 I thought that I would go through my Italian list that in posted up last week and tell you what my thoughts are. Starting with the base Rifle Platoon, forming the core of the army, as it should. There is a Lt with attendant, to help keep the Lt alive a bit longer plus two 5 man Paracadutisti squads each with SMG's and a couple of Panzerfausts. These are for closing down the enemy plus helping to deal with any armour, as the Italians don't have much in the way for good anti-armour. These units are backed up by a full squad of Infantry and a 5 man squad of Bersaglieri with two LMG's for some anti-infantry fire support. To support these units there will be a sniper, and AT rifle and a Light Mortar, thanks to the Bolt Action infantry support box.  Out of this platoon, the main elements that may well change are the support units. The Sniper team will probably remain as I can build one of these from the base infantry box, but the light mortar and AT rifle will need to be sourced...

VBCW force

 So it’s been a while since I posted on this new blog, but I have been pondering and planning my VBCW and Bolt Action forces. I still need to talk to my local gaming group to find out exactly what rules and point or force sizes that they run for VBCW games but I’m going to start off building to the force below.
