Tanks!
I mentioned in a previous post that I had brought 4 vehicles, two tanks and two tankettes but actually it's more like a tank, a self propelled gun and two tankettes.
These vehicles turned up a couple of weeks ago but I have yet to get them primed or painted. The weather is currently hovering around 0 to 5 degrees and damp most of the the time. Hopefully I'll get a chance soon to get them primed at least.
The vehicles in question are the L15\42, the Semovente 75\34 M43 and two CV33's or CV35's (basically the same vehicle).
The L15\42 will be the forces main tank. Now it's not a great tank by any means, with only a Light AT gun but it does have 4 MMG's which is pretty good. I did consider the the P26\40 instead, with it's medium AT gun and Armour 9 but the extra 45 points don't really make it worth while. It is only really my son's Tiger that will cause me issues but most other stuff I play against is armour 8 or 9, so can be dealt with by the light AT gun.
Besides the second vehicle, the Semovente 75\34 M43 should be able to deal with most things. Under the current rules, it's being played as a 75\18 with medium AT gun, as there are no rules for the 75\34. Hopefully that will change with the release for the Italian army book. The 75\34 is a better gun than the 75\18 so hopefully it might get upgraded to a Heavy AT gun but at the moment it works as a medium. I had considered the the 105\25 armed with a super heavy AT gun, but in the end I decided not to. I could run the model as the 105\25, as they are the same chassis and have the same stats, it's just the gun that changes.
The last models I brought are the CV33 \ CV35 (or L3\33's and L3\35's) models. Now, the other vehicles are small compared to other similar vehicles, these models are positively tiny! I really did question if I had brought the wrong scale! But no, they are just tiny. I really like them though, they just look cool and hopefully they will work well in game. I went for the .50 cal armed models, as the HMG is good for anti-infantry and also anti-armour work, albeit light armour. With some close range, rear armour shots it can trouble some heavier armour, but getting those shots off is going to be a bit difficult. If they do prove fun or useful, maybe some AT rifles or MMG armed versions my be on the wish list.
With the two trucks, this gives me six vehicles in total, which I think is enough for the moment. I might get an armoured transport at some point or maybe another tank. I'm waiting to see if I will be able to add in allied or axis tanks once the army book comes out, which will make things easier.
